Middle School Mission Photos!

Middle School Mission Trip Update!

Yes, we are here in Hampton, Georgia!  Sorry for the delay in updating the blog.  We've been working hard and playing hard ever since we turned left into the Calvin Center.  It's hot and humid, but it hasn't stop our middle school youth from doing some great work for two elderly folks in the community.  Work consists of scraping, painting, cleaning up garbage, and going to the dump.  However, one special project for the week is building a dog house for one of the dogs. I know it sounds pretty pointless, but a group of the youth felt that the neighbor dog really needed a better house to live.  So, a house we are building.  We'll keep you updated on the progress.  It should be done by Friday.

Well, everyone is doing GREAT!  I hope to take some time later to load some more photos.  As usual, my brain is fried.  Fried brain = bad writing.  So I'll stick with photos.  ~ Scott

Back from Philly now off to Georgia!

It's time for the middle school mission trip to Calvin Center in Hampton, Ga! We'll be there August 9-15. We'll be staying at the Presbyterian Camp Calvin and participating in their Mission Work Camp. Mission Work Camp allows our group the opportunity to reach out with the love of Jesus Christ through fellowship and service. Typical projects consist of painting, simple carpentry, yard work, and cleaning. In addition to repairing the homes of some very deserving people, we'll have the opportunity to connect with the homeowners and hear their amazing life stories. Seeing people of all ages come together to build, reconstruct, listen and talk is a very powerful way to live out Christ’s call for us to be people of word and deed.
So follow our stories on the blog! We'll try to post photos and video updates everyday if we can. It's going to be a hot, fun, yet rewarding week!

HOME from PHILLY!

We made it home! It was an amazing trip and I can't wait to see what the youth are going to do with their lives now that they've been so heavily educated in homelessness, faith, community, and so much more!

BROAD STREET MINISTRY UPDATE #7

This is one of the small work groups who visited New Jerusalem Now. New Jerusalem Now is a group of homes for recovering drug and alcohol addicts. In the center of the picture is Owen, a 22 year old who has been in the program for 28 days.

BROAD STREET MINISTRY UPDATE #6

Couple more photos of the day.  Tonight I'll post some more video blogs of the day and some pictures from our youth.  The only thing that has been tough this week is that our group is split up into 4 groups during the day, so we're never together as a group when we're working.  So that means I can't get pictures of everyone working throughout the day.  I'll work on some variety.

BROAD STREET MINISTRY UPDATE #5

Here are some quick pics of my groups work.  We went to a local Presbyterian Church and helped out with an art camp.  The youth in my group really got to interact with the kids.

BROAD STREET MINISTRY UPDATE #2

One day down and we've already begun to wrap our arms around what it means to be "homeless."  So many stories to tell, yet so little space!  You all are going to be amazed when you see and hear what our youth will be bringing back to APC and Greensboro!  I really don't have much in the way of words, so I've loaded some pictures for you to see what our day was about.  Enjoy!

A little chat before crossing the street to witness an amazing act of kindness for the homeless of Philly.

GREETINGS FROM PHILLY!

We've made it to Philadelphia!  It's been  a long day for sure!  We packed up the vans and headed northeast this morning from Brown Hall at 7:30 a.m.!  I'll be honest, I struggled last night.  It's not that I didn't want to be here, but something inside me was churning (no, it wasn't my cooking).  Having only one week to be at home after being at Montreat for a week before heading here was harder than I imagined.  I was getting used to being at home, enjoying the time with Amy, Kennedy and the in-laws.  I was comfortable and life was easy.  Although I still am a bit empty leaving Amy and Kennedy again, I was rejuvenated the minute we arrived to Broad Street Ministries.  This good vibe just spread throughout my limbs.  My friends, something special is going to happen this week, but I just can't wrap my tingly arms around it just yet.  Funny thing, though, I don't think it has anything to do with me.  It has everything to with what's going to happen with these youth. So get ready!

In the days ahead, I will be asking our youth to write a small paragraph about their experiences and I will post them on this blog for you all to read and to enjoy the journey with us.  So come back often!

Before I say goodnight, I want to personally thank all of you who help sponsor these youth.  I have been amazed by your support you all have given our youth monetarily speaking and through your prayers!  Our youth can't grow all by themselves.  They grow because of a loving community!

Tomorrow is our first day of work!  I can't wait to share the day with you all!  I promise to take a bunch of pictures and video!  So keep us in your prayers!  Peace and love!  ~Scott
