New exhibit is up!!

Pop Art Youth Group Project

This project is collaborative artworks where each youth participant completed a section of the image which was then assembled with the others to create a unique piece of artwork. The strength of this project lies in the fact that all the youth, irrespective of their individual artistic abilities, contribute to the success of the whole project and consequently a sense of achievement is shared by all. In the end, just like the faith development of each person, this project is not another event, but a process.

PEFECT PHOTO!

My new favorite photo. This was taken at the Alexander's farm.

Fall Fun on the Farm

Last night we had middle school and sr. high youth group at the Alexander's farm! It was a perfect night for fellowship, hay rides, a bonfire, a cow feeding, and hotdogs. I promise more hotdogs next time! We underestimated the amazing turnout last night! It was great having parents with us as well. Thank you Harold and Barbara for having us. It was a well needed break for our youth and adults.

Serving on the farm!

This past Friday a few us met at Peacehaven Community Farm to help them plant their new orchard of pear and apple trees! The temperature was chilly, but we warmed up after we broke out the shovels and began digging holes. Our youth ministry is committed to helping Peacehaven Community Farm for a long time! Please take time to go to their website to learn more.

2nd "@ The Table" (11/6/11)

"@ The Table" is the first Sunday night of every month that is a combined youth dinner that takes the place of regular Sunday night youth group. This is when both middle school and sr. high youth have a chance to learn about different foods, enjoy eating together, talking together, to invite friends and take part in a short devotional.

Last night was much different than our last on in October. There were no utensils and no sitting at the table. We went a bit Biblical. The Food that was prepared by the sr. highs included figs, dates, cheese, flatbread, olives, and an assortment of nuts and fruits. The middle school prepared the eating area and did a fantastic job!

Inspiring Words...

Last night our sr. high youth watched an inspiring video presentation by Cory Booker, the current mayor of Newark, NJ. Not only does he tell us to come as you are but to LEAD WHERE YOU STAND! He also emphasized for us to learn from the everyday people we meet. According to the two men on the road to Emmaus, Jesus was just an ordinary man. Distracted, they were kept from recognizing him. It was only until they listened to the stories from the "ordinary man" that they were finally able to recognize him.

Watch the trailer (Cory comes on at 37 second mark)

Raw thoughts from our youth immediately after the video...

Together we can move mountains...It's time for a change...Do something...Wow...See the opportunity, positivity, and the light in the world, not the problems...Stand up...We stood...Unique...We can't overlook the people God puts on our path...We have to stay original and step out and stand up...I wish Cory Booker was the Mayor of Greensboro...Everyday I have the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, and at the same time my life will be shaped through them...We are all born original, but sadly, so many of us die copies (Abe Lincoln). Let us all be original and stand for what we believe...How can I get to the roof...We need to approach problems from a different perspective sometimes...Where two or three are gathered together, there he is also...God is everywhere but it's our responsibility to make God's love appear to those who can't see it...Together we can...God is good. Life is good...People are born with originality, but by the end of their life they blend in(this makes me want to be someone who can leave something behind).

Great work to all who came out last Saturday morning to help Peacehaven Community Farm take another step forward! Our youth helped pull up irrigation lines, dug through and spread mulch, petted a couple cows, picked some eggs and chased llamas! Yep! Chased llamas!!!
